Stacks Launches Genesis Bond With 250 BTC
Stacks names four institutional participants in its Genesis Bond. Weekly Bitcoin rewards are expected from September 17, with the next period in October.
Key Takeaways
- Stacks said four institutions joined the Genesis Bond, committing 250 BTC at launch.
- The first weekly Bitcoin rewards are expected on September 17, with a second bonding period planned for early October.
Details
Stacks launched its Genesis Bond on September 10, 2026, with 250 BTC committed by an initial group of institutions, according to its launch announcement. The program pairs Bitcoin with STX commitments to distribute BTC-denominated rewards funded by Stacks miners.
Stacks named 21Shares, HashKey Cloud, UTXO Management and Sypher Capital as participants. Its September 3 announcement said 21Shares would participate using its own Bitcoin treasury holdings.
Under the Genesis Bond design, direct participants lock BTC on the Bitcoin blockchain and commit STX on Stacks worth 5% of the bonded Bitcoin's value. Each bonding period lasts six months. Direct participation remains subject to a whitelist during the initial rollout.
The documentation says an early Bitcoin withdrawal forfeits rewards that have not yet been distributed. The paired STX stays locked for the full six-month term.
Registration for the second period is open, with that period due to begin in early October, the launch announcement said.
Market Analysis
The reward model draws on Bitcoin that miners spend to produce Stacks blocks through Proof of Transfer. By requiring a paired STX commitment, the bond gives STX a specific role in allocating staking capacity. Participants therefore commit two assets on separate chains to access the same miner-funded reward stream.
