CME October Crypto ADV Is 145,000 Contracts; Headline Record Covers All Assets
CME reported October crypto ADV of 145,000 contracts and $7.85B notional. Its record 30M-contract headline covers all asset classes, not cryptocurrency alone.
CME Group’s November 3 release puts October 2026 cryptocurrency average daily volume (ADV) at 145,000 contracts, representing $7.85 billion in notional value. The headline October record of 30 million contracts per day refers to the group’s full asset-class range, not cryptocurrency alone.
Keep the measures separate
Across all asset classes, ADV increased 15% year over year. Interest-rate products accounted for 14.8 million contracts per day and equity indexes for 8.8 million. The crypto figures are daily averages for October, not a monthly contract total or a measure of net money entering crypto. Contract count and notional value describe different dimensions of trading activity.
OrangeX.com Analysis
Our assessment is that turnover data should be read as activity, not a standalone signal of new capital or price direction. Every matched trade has two sides. Changes in contract sizes and product mix can alter the relationship between counts and notional value, while open interest is a separate measure. The release’s all-asset October record does not establish a cryptocurrency record or prove net institutional buying.
